Lagos government seals nightclubs due to lack of fire extinguishers and poor hygiene

The Lagos State Safety Commission said it sealed lounges and nightclubs in Ikeja due to non-compliance with its Zero Accidents 2022 (ZAC) campaign.

The commission’s chief executive, Lanre Mojola, said in a statement on Tuesday that the ZAC is committed to ensuring that all workplaces and public facilities are safe for all visitors and workers.

The commission said lack of fire extinguishers, lack of sanitation and housekeeping, lack of safety signage, inadequate parking and other safety violations led to the outfits being closed.

Mr Mojola added that action against some bars, lounges and nightclubs had become necessary due to their violation of Lagos government regulations despite several efforts to ensure compliance.

The Lagos official criticized the outfits’ failure to obtain safety compliance certificates and register with the commission through its portal

Mr. Mojola further reiterated that similar enforcement exercises would take place across.

He also mentioned that the commission will not slack off its efforts especially when implementing the laws of the commission towards a safer Lagos for all.

The Managing Director implored all business entities to regularize their security management documentation to make public places safer in Lagos.
